Unlimited Google Drive + Google Classroom = Your Own Private Channel

There is no denying that youTube is one of the most powerful and robust sources of learning on the planet. Students are often surprised at how much they actually learn from youTube – both good and bad. Educators often wish they could use youTube, but are afraid to for a variety of reasons, ranging from bandwidth availability to the unpredictability of the comments.

If you are fortunate enough to be part of a Google for Education school, then you have a Drive with unlimited space. If you are part of a Google for Education school, then you also probably use Google Classroom. If you are able to use one of the variety of ways to convert youTube to MP4 files, then you are on your way to presenting the content found on youTube in the security of Google Classroom.

If you are going to embark on this new workflow, there a few decisions you will need to make.

  1. How will I get youTube videos onto my machine in an upload-able format?
  2. What file naming and folder structure will I use in Drive so that I can keep track of it all?
  3. Will I take advantage of Google Classroom’s Topics feature to keep Classroom organized?
